National B Corp Month: Celebrating Businesses with a Purpose-Driven Mindset

March is National B Corp Month, and Malouf™ is proud to be part of this global community using the power of business for good.

In 2019, Malouf™ became a Certified B Corporation®. This means that as a company, and through our work with the Malouf Foundation, we’re concerned not only with revenue, but also with our corporate social responsibility for society, workers, the community, and the environment. Our company goal to help people sleep better has a triple bottom line: planet, people, profits.

9  B Corps Leading Powerful Initiatives

Today, we want to highlight a few businesses in the B Corp community and how they’re making a positive impact on a local, national, and global level.

1. Caldera + Lab

Caldera + Lab

As a Certified B Corporation®, Caldera + Lab is committed to building business for good. Their skincare formulations are entirely toxic-free, vegan, and gluten-free, and their packaging is sustainable—almost 100 percent recyclable and plastic-free. They also donate 2 percent of revenues to vetted nonprofits that work toward making this planet a better place to live. Caldera + Lab aims to bring people the best in men’s skincare that is healthy for the skin as well as their conscience. Learn More

2. Jelt

Jelt, a better belt.

Jelt is a social enterprise whose sole mission is to give back to the world. They make elastic lifestyle belts from 100 percent recycled plastic bottles with a durable rePET yarn, manufactured in a way that empowers underserved women. They then donate a portion of all sales to organizations supporting veterans, families, and the environment.

Being a Certified B Corporation® validates Jelt’s mission and verifies they’re using business as a force for good. As a Women-Owned Small Business, they were honored to be the seventh B Corp to be certified in Montana and plan to continue their good work for decades to come. Learn More

3. MPOWERD

MPOWERD

MPOWERD has been a Certified B Corporation® since 2012 and is pleased the movement continues to hold companies accountable for their environmental and social impact. As one of the earliest established B Corps, they have continuously looked to do good for people and the planet. MPOWERD believes everyone deserves access to clean, reliable, and affordable energy—no matter where or how they live.

MPOWERD believes that the Earth deserves a little more love, too. Developed world retail sales from their solar-powered products subsidize their emerging market and emergency response deployments to those who need it most.

To date, MPOWERD has impacted 3.7 million lives and averted 1.4 million U.S. tons of CO2 in the process. They strongly believe that companies have a responsibility to help solve global challenges—and they’re proud to be a B Corp. Learn More

4. Pixza

For Pixza, being a Certified B Corporation® is a validating stamp of approval that means they can make a difference and that people are not alone. They’re a social empowerment platform disguised as a pizzeria. They created the world’s first blue-corn pizza made out of 100 percent Mexican ingredients.

As a social empowerment platform, they exclusively hire young adults in a social abandonment profile and offer them a multidimensional 12-month empowerment program. Their mission is to empower, and to include, and they will continue paving a path in that same direction. Learn More

Sudara

Sudara is a Certified B Corporation® that empowers women in India who have escaped from or who are at high risk of human trafficking by providing dignified employment opportunities. Women decide how they will provide for their families and receive skills, training, and education for their chosen vocation to complete their transition.

Sudara’s success is not only measured by their long-term, positive social impact and systemic change, but also through their profits that are reinvested in the women they support.

7. Thread Talk

There are two titles Hannah Kay Herdlinger never thought she would hold in life: domestic violence survivor and entrepreneur. Now, those two titles have come to define the work she does every day, empowering survivors like herself through Thread Talk, the for-profit, for-purpose company she founded in 2017.

A Certified B Corporation®, Thread Talk sells cozy and eco-friendly blankets woven with the power to transform lives and empower survivors of domestic violence. A portion of every purchase is donated to provide critical wish-list items to domestic violence shelters throughout the United States.

With an aim to spread much-needed awareness about domestic violence across the country, Thread Talk recently launched their Trailblazer ambassador program, which now has representatives in 37 states and 87 cities. Learn More

9. Zen of Slow Cooking

Meg Barnhart and Jane McKay co-created Zen of Slow Cooking in 2012, with a vision to bring people back to the dinner table to enjoy delicious home-cooked meals. They also wanted to create a business where adults with developmental challenges could work—this dream was largely inspired by Meg’s personal desire to create a business for her own son.

With that dream in mind, they launched a food blog and used their most popular recipes to create a line of award-winning, globally-inspired spice blends for recipes crafted for the slow cooker or its millennial cousin, the Instant Pot (multi-cooker.) Each time someone receives a spice blend from their online store it will have been packaged with care by an adult with a developmental challenge.

Zen of Slow Cooking became a Certified B Corporation® in 2017 to demonstrate their core belief in creating an inclusive economy. They love being part of a community of business leaders from around the world that are using business as a force for good. Learn More
